Summary of Jejane:
Jejane Private Nature Reserve is a 2,070 ha Big 5 game reserve situated in the Greater Kruger Park and falling within the Balule region and bordering Klaserie. The Reserve is not to be confused with Mjejane which is a community owned property and development which is located bordering the south of Kruger Park. Jejane is a registered Private Game Reserve and is over 50 years in existence.
The Reserve is located a convenient 5km from Hoedspruit. It is structured as a share block with only 47 owners, each with a site, of which there are 44 homes and 3 undeveloped stands. Syndication is allowed to a maximum of 5 shareholders per site, and some homes have multiple owners, while others are fully owned by one owner.
The quality of bushveld and environment is excellent with various ecozones such as plains, drainage lines, riverbeds, rocky outcrops and mixed bushveld, which ultimately leads to interesting and good game viewing. The reserve is well run by the regional Warden and Manager of Jejane, an assistant manager and a team of Staff. They follow Environmentally sound principles and have several
projects they are involved in for example the Bees, Trees and Honey project, and Aardvark Project. Their role in counter poaching and Rhino protection cannot be over emphasised. Then there is also the day to day running and managing of the reserve to ensure shareholders have the infrastructure such as roads, power, boreholes, water and game hides to ensure an exceptional and comfortable bush experience.
A board of directors is nominated to act on behalf of members, and they have certain authority and responsibility to oversight the running of the reserve and allocate the necessary resources and money gathered via levies to the running of the reserve. Financial Budgets are well understood and disclosed, and annual budgeting ensure the smooth running of the reserve
There is 2,300 ha of traversing area with a network of 123 km of roads leading to four earth dams, several smaller pans, five water points each with Viewing hides overlooking them. The Mohlabetsi Riverbed in the Easterner side has a weir and holds water that attracts Hippo.
The Architectural guidelines are more lenient than other reserves as the homes are not visible form the road or by neighbours. Architectural guidelines and plans are however approved by the board of directors. Homes are built within a 50 m radius of the central peg and located to provide maximum privacy. There is a maximum allowable size of 350m2, with roof height restrictions of 7m.
Each home is allowed to sleep as many as 10 people and owners can have their own 4x4 for game viewing which can be stored at the administration centre.
